FLY THE FLAG

To the Editor of the Advocate:-

Sir, - Next Saturday the 22nd of April will be the first anniversary of the commencement of the second battle of "Ypres" or as perhaps it is more familiarly known "St. Julien."

It is of this fighting that one writer says "The Canadians wrested from the trenches, over the bodies of the dead and maimed, the right to stand side by side with the superb troops who, in the first battle of Ypres, broke and drove before them the flower of the Prussian Guards."

The day will be remembered throughout Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and it is the hope of the Canadian Patriotic Fund that the citizens of Red Deer [Alberta] will celebrate the anniversary by the flying of our national flags as a mark of respect to the men who in that great fight gave all they had.  But let us fly them high for it was a glorious day for Canada that our men gave us, and they doubtless would want it remembered as a day of victory.
