Dear Folks at Home:-

     This is a very warm day so thinking that a bath might be rather refreshing I came over to this building for one.  Upon arriving here however I was cheerfully informed that I would have to wait 45 minutes for my turn and so I am passing the time by writing to you with the en, ink etc. that is supplied by this institution.

     I have just been wondering how many of my letters you have received.  I haven’t received any letters from you dated later than May 20th so don’t know of course.  Some of the fellows said that the first letters they wrote home were nearly all ripped to pieces by the censor so that may been the fate of mine.  I have written to you at least once a week since landing so you will know about how many you should get.

     Well at last we are getting away on our landing leave on Monday i.e. if nothing happens in the meantime to stop us.

     We are having very hot weather these days although it is always fine and cool in the evenings.  I have donned my usual coat of tan and will likely be as black as a nigger in a couple of weeks.  I like the drill and work fairly well but much prefer signalling.  However I guess we will just have to be patient until we are called for as signallers.

     I received a letter from Stanley Stephens in answer to one I wrote him and he said that you had had snow on the ground on May 24th .  I guess Wells wouldn’t sell much gasolene that day.

     Well this is only a short letter but it is really too hot to do anything and besides it is nearly my turn for the bath so I will close.
