Local Enlistment
After some delay, and during which time some who had intimated that they would enlist here had joined at other places, recruiting for the local company began on Monday, under charge of Sergeant Ferriss, of Haileybury. Already the following have joined Harry Reeves, Ernest Henson, Thos. Baird, Walter Wagstaff, W. Kinsett, C. E. Miller, Arthur Uttley, Cecil Hewitt and Chas. Wasnidge. Fifty men are required to have the company located here for the winter. If the scheme materializes the men will train in the Government wharf, sleeping accommodations and lodgings being secured elsewhere. It is expected the men would be kept in the north until about the middle of May. Young men from the surrounding townships, who desire to enlist, should consult the Liskeard officers.
