News from the home front - Return of a soldier

Huntingdon Gleaner

Dated:

Riverfield

Christmas parcels were packed for the men overseas last week. An offering was taken to meet the necessary expenses and for the prisoners of war fund.

Unaware even to his relatives, John B. Brown of the famous 1st Contingent quietly landed from the morning express Monday, to the glad surprise of his family and his many friends. Invalided home this autumn, because of gas poisoning, he had to return to his Military District in Moose Jaw to receive his discharge papers. In transit across Canada, he took the flu, followed by an pneumonia complications. It is no wonder, therefore, that he does not appear in the prime physical condition which he was in over 4 years ago, when he left for the seat of war. Only four or five of the original Battalion of over 1100 survive.
