Extract from “Liskeard News”
     Mr. Alf. Turner, formerly of the George Taylor Hardware Co. here, lately with Slaght & Slaght, barristers of Haileybury, has answered the call of the Empire for men and will join the 48th Regiment at once.  Mr. Turner’s example might well be followed by scores of able bodied young unmarried men in this vicinity, who are apparently indifferent as to the outcome of the present gigantic struggle which means the liberty of the nation.
