Farewell to Norman Evoy
On Tuesday evening a large number of citizens gathered at the depot, to bid farewell to Mr. Norman Evoy, one of our popular young men, who left on the train to join the Royal Canadian Engineers, at Toronto, from which point they will shortly leave for Quebec and the front. In addition to the adult friends of Mr. Evoy, there were many scholars of the local schools on the platform as the train came in, and the air was made to resound with the various patriotic songs, the National Anthem being heartily sung as the train pulled out. Mr. Evoy joins the Engineers as an electrical expert, and it would appear that there will be big work ahead of the various engineering corps before the present war is brought to a successful termination. Mr. Evoy is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Evoy, of Lake Shore Road, and the family have been residents of New Liskeard for many years, the young people being connected with various local associations. The Speaker wishes Mr. Evoy a pleasant journey and a safe return. Mr. Will Hallet, son of Mr. Hallet, of Haileybury, is also a member of the Royal Canadian Engineers, and was recently promoted to the position of Lance-Corporal, while Mr. Fred Nickle, who was a member of the Speaker staff several years ago, and has since become a civil engineer, is now at the front, with the Winnipeg contingent.
