Pte. W.H. Orton
Pte Orton writes his cousin, Miss Alberta, of this town, under date of July 19th. giving particulars of the death of her brother Pte Sam Alberta. He died as the result of wounds in the leg. Pte. Orton was in the hospital on account of a slight ailment which he thought would soon be better. He speaks well of the hospital nurses.
Capt. Fryer also writes Mr. Alberta notifying him of his son's death. The Captain says: “It is with the deepest regret that I find it my duty to inform you of the death of your son Pte. Alberta A.J., who was wounded by a German bomb on June 29th, 1917, while patrilling “No-Man's Land” and died the next day.
Your son was one of the best men in my Company, and was constantly striving to get in close contact with the enemy. He always volunteered to go on any special raids and patrols and was a very cool and reliable man in “No-Man's Land.” I assure you he is missed by everyone in the company.
The officers and N.C.O's and men of the Company join with me in offering their deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to you.
