Letter recovered from Empress of Ireland

New Liskeard Speaker

Dated: December 18, 1914

Letter Recovered

Private Chris Plant, now in Toronto with the Second Contingent, had mailed a letter to Mr. G. Copper, Halifax, England, which went down with the mail bags on the “Empress of Ireland.” It was known here that divers had recovered the mail matter, and now Mr. Plant has received from the dead letter office this particular letter. On the face of the envelope is stamped: “Recovered by divers from wreck of Empress of Ireland.” The envelope is somewhat wrinkled on account of the water, but the writing is quite legible.
