Second Contingent

Mr. Tom Magladery received a message from the Minister of Militia saying that a second contingent will shortly be acceptable from Temiskaming, and judging by the men who are drilling every night, we expect Liskeard will contribute liberally towards this contingent. One volunteer is worth two pressed men, it is said. Great Britain has not had occasion to draft men for active service for many a long day. We hope our people will never fail to volunteer in times of need. Let the unmarried, be the first to go, but in defence of our homes and our families, then every one who can do anything to help should cheerfully go, just the same as in the early days in the United States even women and children assisted when Indians attacked the whites.

Col. McKee has been instructed to place the 97^th Regiment up to full strength as early as possible, and to that end, we have been asked to announce that all recruits desiring to serve with the overseas contingent may register with Lieut. Magladery at once.
