In order that Canadian soldiers may have a permanent record of the war that will grow in value the War Memorials branch of the Canadian War Records Office have issued a volume of reproductions of war memorial paintings by Canadian and British artists entitled "Art and War." These plates are made from the paintings which were exhibited at the Royal Academy. The best craftsmanship has been secured to give the 58 coloured plates the finest effect. In addition are eight black-and-white plates.

Among the paintings in this book are.:"The Landing of the First Canadian Division in France"; "St. Martin's Gate, Ypres"; "The Second Battle of Ypres"; “The Flag" (the last great painting done by Byam Shaw before his death); a portrait of Princess Patricia; "Canada's Answer" (showing the great fleet carrying the First Contingent to England); "The Night Patrol at Dover"; "The Cookhouse" a humorous painting by Miss Airy. In addition to many others, there is "The Death of Wolfe" which was presented to the. Canadian War Memorials by the Duke of Westminster. In fact the work is a pictorial history of the accomplishment of Canadians during the war, showing not only the fighting in France, but the training centres in England and the forestry work in both countries.
