Were Accustomed to Lee-Enfield

Montreal Daily Star

Dated: January 6, 1915

Ottawa, Jan.6

Why the Princess Patricia Regiment discarded the Ross rifle before going to the front is explained in a letter from one of the non-commissioned officers which has been received at Ottawa. It bears out the previous explanation that the reason underlying the change is that the regiment is composed almost exclusively of former British soldiers accustomed to the Lee-Enfield.

The complaints were frequent and just before leaving for France the Ross rifle was replaced. The brigade with which the Princess Pats are merged is considered one of the finest at the front.
