Considerable interest is being shown as the day approaches for the appointment of councilors for the new village of Howick, which will be an accomplished fact next week. There will probably be 3 French and 4 English members in the new council.
The local patriotic fund committee appeared before the Council on Monday to urge the board to give a monthly sum to the fund. As the division of the parish was incomplete, there was some hesitation as to the advisability of voting the money before the two councils were organized. However, after an amicable discussion between the council and Messrs Mahon, McCrae and J. Brown, the board agreed to vote $75 per month for three months towards the fund. After all voluntary subscriptions are received, there will be about $700 in addition to the above appropriation for the good cause.
