Somewhere
June 16th, 1916
My Dear Sister,
Just a few lines to let you know that so far I am still o.k., and I sincerely hope that I will continue to remain so.
Well sis, we had some awful times in the last three weeks. We have lost an awful number of men. It started from the night I scribbled you the few lines in a hurt. But, thank God, I am still here.
I am sending a few flowers I picked in a city a mile from where the battle was fought. We won, but I have lost my best friends. But this is the way of war: here today, tomorrow somewhere.
Well sis, how is everything around home? It must be nice there at present. I wish I was there; but never mind, while there is life there is hope.
Well sis, I am too tired to write. In fact, there is nothing to write about; so give my love to all.
Yours Loving
Ervin
