William Orr of Corbin has enlisted and is starting for Montréal today (14th) where he intends to join his regiment. On the eve of his departure the boys had a farewell meeting at Havelock and presented him with a purse, containing $20.75. Mr. Orr is a favorite with the boys; they wish him good luck and a safe return. He was engaged in making butter at Havelock this summer. His parents now reside in Claremont, New Hampshire.


From Burt Lang's “Placenames in South West Quebec”, Corbin is: A hamlet on Rte 202 at the corner of Montée Giroux. (45.047N/73.685W) Also known locally as "The Fort". Site of an early grist mill and later the site of a sawmill operated by Hosmer Corbin. William Orr's attestation papers give his residence as Hemmingford, Quebec
