Dewittville Resident, First Great War Veteran, Served Under Major Bishop- Overseas Since June 1941 - A Fine Record
Staff-sergeant Francis Tessier, a widely known garage owner and handy man at Dewittville. has been overseas in the service of his country since June 1941.
This is no new role for Frank, as he enlisted in the artillery and went Overseas in November 1914, returning on Oct. 31. 1919. During that time he spent three years fighting
in France, in the Artillery, as dispatch and transport rider. Later he was promoted to the Air-force, under Major Bishop, from which he was discharged when the war was over, the proud holder of a 1st class certificate.
While in England he met Miss Edith Fuller. of Horsham, Southern England, who was doing her bit for the Allies, too. by packing munitions. They were married in 1917 and returned to Canada in 1919 'with their young daughter, Doris.
When war was declared again on Sept. 3rd. 1939, Mr. Tessier's first thought was of that 1st class discharge certificate and of how he could turn his accomplishments to benefit the Allles. He was anxious to get into harness again- but not in the air force this time, as he lost three fingers off his right hand during sawing of wood operations a few years ago. He found out it was not possible to enlist in the air force and was satisfied to enlist in the 1st Canadian Tank Brigade, as staff-sergeant. As staff sergeant Tessier he went overseas with his regiment in June 1941, still a young man. He was born at Dewittville, Que., July 20, 1895, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tessier,
Latest word received hy his wife, Mrs. Tessier, is that he has been wounded (bomb) and is in hospital, “Somewhere in England.”
Staff-sergeant Tessier would be glad to get letters from all of his friends and relatives, his address is staff-sergeant. As staff-serg't. Tessier D96488-61 L.AD.. 1st Can. Tank Brigade, R.C.O.C., Canadian Army Overseas.
He has a wife and seven children Doris in Montreal, Lynus, Dewittville, Gerald (Billy) like his father enlisted in May 1941, for Overseas Service, and is at present training in Baltimore. Maryland, USA. Nora, Rita, Gertrude and Ear], are with their mother, Mrs. Tessier, in Dewittville.
