Letters From the Front

Dated: April 16, 1915

Among those who left with the first contingent was Duncan Johnston, for a long time assistant at the power-house. The following letter was received from him by Miss Nellie Johnston of Chateauguay, New York, dated April 16.

April 16, 1915

France

Dear Cousin Nellie,

Received your letter and card and was pleased to hear that your father and mother were no worse. I am well; the weather here is getting better, farmers are sowing their grain now. It is a fine farming country anywhere you go, but the towns are badly shot up. The Germans are shelling one of our batteries this morning. The searchlights were going last night, they show for a great many miles. Any of the people the write to me from home I will answer them. If you hear of any not receiving them let me know as I think they all do not go through.
