Service Biography

William Roy Oliver was born at Rockburn, Quebec, on 10 June 1897 and worked as a farmer. Drafted under the Military Service Act, he joined the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment at Montreal on 26 July 1918 as Private 3090477. He served in Canada for 11 days and was discharged at Montreal on 5 August 1918 at his own request in order to re-enlist in the Royal Air Force. His Canadian Army file does not document his subsequent Royal Air Force service.

Medical History Sheet dated 26 July 1918 records age 21 years 1 month, height 5 ft 7 in, weight 116 lb, chest 33 in, fair complexion, blue eyes and light-brown hair, with physical development described as good and Category A2. The leaving-service examination on 5 August 1918 records weight 141 lb, height 5 ft 7 in and states that he was in good physical condition. No hospital admissions are recorded.
