Was serving as a wireless operator and gunner on a Wellington Bomber flying on a night anti-sub search.
The aircraft was taking off on an operational sortie at night for Socotra, normal Goose Neck flare path in use. The pilot of 244 squadron, due to operational necessity. was taking off in a No. 621 aircraft. The aircraft was heard to be over-speeding and the aircraft crashed two miles (two and one half miles from Kirma Rae Karme, Aden, Arabia) from the end of the runway after completing a 90 degree turn.
