Additional Service Notes

Was on an operational mission out of Shandur (near Cairo), Egypt for an offensive reconnaissance in the Agean area, with the bombing of Candia as the alternative target in a twin engined Vickers Wellington Mk XI bomber on night of 22/23 February 1944 acting as a wireless operator/air gunner, part of a crew of 6. The target was successfully bombed but at 00:15 hours on 23 February the aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and seen to be descending in flames into the Aegean Sea.
