Trained with the Victoria Rifles in Farnham, Quebec October-November 1940. Was in the reserve of the Victoria Rifles.
Flying in a Halifax took off on a special dropping operation for a target ten miles North of Lake Chridsko. Information received indicates that the aircraft was shot down by flak in the vicinity of Berat, Albania. Five of the crew (of 8) bailed out and they report that at posItion 40 degrees 50 minutes north, 19 degrees 50 minutes East at approxinatoly 23:40 the aircraft was hit by flak and the Pilot ordered them to bail out. The wireless operator, WO1 GRAY, noticed tho Yugo-Slav despatcher was apparantly unconsious, sitting injured in the rest position. Afteran unucccseful attempt to drag the despatcher to the escape exit, the wireless. Operator and Engineer,Sgt Griffiths, bailed out. P/O Boyes (Pilot), F/O Pullar, F/S Green, and WO1 Gray met on the ground anI from the Partisans learned that three bodie were observed at the scene of the crashed aircraft. The Engineer, Sgt Griffiths, was taken prisoner.
From this information it appears that WO1 MvCaig and the Yugo-Slav despatcher died in the aircraft.
