Private John Erskine Orr was born in Ormstown in 1894, the son of John and Mary Orr. He was farming with his parents in Tatehurst when he enlisted in the 87th Battalion. He was listed as missing, presumed killed, in a raid on the German trenches near Voormezeele on September 17, 1916. His body was never recovered, and his name is listed on the Menin Gate. He was 22 years old.
