David Albert Wilson was born at Saint-Chrysostome, Quebec, on 2 January 1897. At calling up he was a single Presbyterian farmer living at Howick, Quebec. His father, David W. Wilson of Howick, was next of kin. He reported no Active Militia or previous military/naval service. The Medical History Sheet records age 21 years 6 months, height 5 ft 8 in, weight 177 lb, chest 34–41 in, ruddy complexion, blue eyes, medium brown hair, good physical development, a left varicocele, and category A2.

David Albert Wilson was drafted under the Military Service Act and joined at Montreal on 17 July 1918 as Private 3087715 with the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment. His service remained in Canada. The unit casualty/pay card records him taken on strength on 17 July 1918; a same-day A.W.L. entry was subsequently cancelled and a same-day reported entry was recorded. Demobilization paperwork dated 28 January 1919 directed him to report by 6 February 1919 for discharge. The active-service casualty form records him struck off strength with effect 6 February 1919 at Montreal, authority Demobilization, P.O. Part II No. 41. He executed the release and completed demobilization that day.
