Lieutenant Douglas Archibald Wright, born in Ormstown, had moved to British Columbia with his parents, the Rev. T. H. and Lillian Wright. He enlisted in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Vancouver, in March of 1915. On the evening of August 11, 1918, the P.P.C.L.I. had a company of men supporting an attempt to drive the Germans out of the French town of Parvillers, near Amiens. They immediately met heavy resistance. On the morning of August 12th, the Germans counterattacked, drawing heavy losses but killing the 22 year old Lieutenant Wright in the process.
