Was employed two years with R.G.Dun & Co., Montreal, from stenographer to Condense Reporter. Went West to Medicine Hat, Alberta in Feb.1912 and was employed for more than two years with the Southern Alberta Land Company Limited at that city, from stenographer to Purchasing Agent. In August 1914 the Southern Alberta Land Company Limited was taken over by the Canadian Government and closed down, all employees being dismissed. I then went down the Pacific Coast to Portland, Ore. where I was employed by The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company until June 27th 1917, from Inventory Clerk to Chief Clerk to the District Plant Chief. On May 15th 1917 I enlisted in the 8th Telegraph Battalion, Signal Reserve Corps (now the 411th Telegraph Battalion) and was called to active service on June 29th 1917. This Battalion was enlisted entirely from the employees of The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company and the Company pay the men the difference between their salaries while with them and what they receive from the Government. I am now private secretary to Major Griswold of the 411th Telegraph Battalion, at the Presidio of Monterey, Calif. U.S.A.
