While on picket duty in England in Feb 1917 was suddenly seized with pain in right eye. Reported sick the next morning. Detained at Brigade hospital 3 days then transferred to Westcliffe Eye Hospital for 3 months.
Hospitalized May 1917 acute iritis in the right eye with posterior synechiae and lens opacities about 10 o'clock (Loss of vision in right eye). Condition determined as permanent.
