As second Pilot of his crew he took off at 6.33 hours on the night of 11th November, 1943 to atack Cannes and nothing further was héard from them.
No.35 Squadron reported that Halifax aircraft, HR.985, with a crew of 8, failed to return from an operational attack
on Cannes. It left base at 18.33 hours, on the 11th. November, 1943, after which no further news was received.
one crew member survived and was taken prisoner. He later reported:
"The outward trip was uneventful and target was bombed successfully. While returning the air craft was attacked by fighter and the aircraft badly damaged. The pilot gave the order to abandon aircraft, and a few seconds later the intercom became unserviceable, and he received no acknowledgment of his order."
