Statement from one of the men with Pte. Ross, D-110268 Pte. Mike Buhnai
We were walking down the right side of the Lakeshore Road between the Lachine Canal and the Honore Mercier Bridge to meet a friend of Pte. Ross's who was a policeman on the Honore Mercier Bridge, when I saw a car approaching with fog-lights which did not shine very brightly. The car was coming towards at a speed of between 50 and. 6o miles per hour and as soon as I saw the car I shouted to the boys 'Here comes a car" and. jumped to the left landing in the middle of the road six feet away. As I the car touched my foot so that I felt it.
The car struck Pte. Ross and carried him a distance of about fifty feet and as the car struck him the lights were turned on. The car stopped and the driver got out and asked Pte. Potts if anyone was hurt. We looked for Pte. Ross and found him in the ditch at the rear of the car, dead.
