Notes
Alice Eva Hindley, daughter of William Hindley and Martha Luttrell, was one of the original Nursing Sisters with the No 8 Canadian Stationary Hospital, having joined the unit in Saskatchewan in 1916 prior to its departure to England. She went to France when No 8 was deployed there in December 1917. In March 1918 she was temporarily transferred to No 1 Canadian General Hospital, but returned to the unit at Charmes. Alice would serve with No 8 Stationary Hospital until February 1919, when she was SOS to serve with the Principal Matron, Canadians with a view to an early return to Canada. During her service, Alice would be Mentioned In Dispatches and awarded the Royal Red Cross 2nd Class (ref: 2004-01505-5).
Her brother, Cpt. George Jospeh Hindley, a Minister, also enlisted in May 1916 and was initially attached to the 204th Battalion..
