The following bio is transcribed from the War Memorial of Huron County's Heroes and Heroines. Published by The Wingham Advance, Wingham, Ont. Pamphlet with photos of war dead and survivors. From page nine:
NURSING SISTER MISS JEAN McGILVRAY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Angus McGilvray, of Pleasant Valley, Wingham, was nursing in a Chicago Hospital when the call for nurses came. She immediately joined a large class of 75 nurses and in June, 1915, left for France. On arrival there she was attached to the 23rd General Hospital at Etaples, where she remained for her enlistment period of six months. She returned to Toronto at Christmas, found her sister ill, and decided it was her duty to remain with her. Miss McGilvray always regretted being unable to return to France to render her valuable assistance as nurse.
